Bulgaria regulator reveals Georgiev as new chair

The Bulgarian Ministry of Finance has appointed Alexander Georgiev as the new chairman of the country’s State Commission on Gambling,

The Bulgarian Ministry of Finance has appointed Alexander Georgiev as the new chairman of the country’s State Commission on Gambling.

Georgiev, who takes on his new role with immediate effect, has served as deputy director of the Bulgarian National Tax Agency since May 2017.

Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov signed off on the new appointment.

Meanwhile, Maria Filipova, who previously led the Commission as chair, has taken on the role of deputy chair at the Financial Supervision Commission. Here, she will hed up the Investment Activity Supervision Division.

In December 2018, figures from the Bulgarian Trade Association of Manufacturers and Operators in the Gaming Industry (BTAMOI) suggested that the country's 13 regulated igaming sites – including operators such as bet365 and GVC's bwin – took in total handle of BGN413.5 during first nine months of the year.
