Chilean gambling regulator to make ICE London debut

Next year’s ICE London will mark the first time Chile’s gambling regulator, the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego, has participated in the conference content.

Representatives from the regulator of one of Latin America’s more mature markets will host a Chilean regulatory roundtable as part of the ICE VOX content. This will take place on the second day of the World Regulatory Briefing (WrB) agenda, on Tuesday 4 February, starting at 14:40.

“That the Chilean regulator [Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego] is participating in ICE London for the first time ever suggests an opening up to international investment and presents an incredible opportunity for operators and suppliers alike,” Clarion Gaming conference producer Layla Ali explained.

“If you’re a company looking for a foot in the door in Latin America, the Superintendent of Chile’s mature, relatively stable market is someone you need to meet.”

While nearby markets such as Argentina and Brazil are only just moving towards expanding their gambling markets, Chile has long been open for business.

The country currently hosts 18 licensed land-based casinos and operates a national lottery, both of which have been vital to generating additional revenue for the state and maximising tourist spend.

Chile has also regularly hit the headlines in recent years. Among the key developments are Enjoy S.A investing over $118m in the market, mergers and acquisitions and efforts to improve player protection standards through the newly-established Responsible Gambling Corporation (Corporación de Juego Responsible).

“These have highlighted that while Chile may not be joining Colombia and Brazil on their online gaming adventures, the market is certainly not one to dismiss,” Ali added.
