Database Administrator — Malta, Dublin & Belfast

My client, a global payments service provider, is seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join their team in Malta, Dublin, or Belfast.

Main Responsibilities:

• Evaluate the performance of database systems, including resource utilization and query efficiency.
• Optimize SQL code when required.
• Perform essential database upgrades and maintenance.
• Administer database security access.
• Oversee and maintain database maintenance plans for tasks like backups, index optimization, and statistics updates.
• Execute ad-hoc database backups and restores.
• Resolve database connectivity issues and implement database configuration changes.
• Troubleshoot and address recurring issues using Problem Management processes.
• Collaborate with the BI team to meet reporting needs driven by data warehousing.

Desired experience and skillset:

• 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, resolving issues like lock contention and performance bottlenecks.
• AWS RDS Postgres.
• Expertise in tuning server configuration parameters.
• Experience with upgrading major Postgres versions.
• Experience in designing database relation tables, creating and maintaining efficient table structures, and managing indexes.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Postgres components and extensions.
• Development and testing of disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
• Scripting proficiency in languages like Bash and Python for automating routine DBA tasks.
• Understanding of security principles and auditing.

Nice to have:

• Reporting like Metabase or Jasper.
• Analysis tools like pgbadger.
• Background in a PCI/financial services environment.
