New Jersey signs interstate compact with Delaware, Nevada
New Jersey has entered into an interstate compact with Delaware and Nevada in a move that will allow the three US states to share online poker player pools.
Delaware and Nevada already have a deal in place to share player pools, but the new agreement will open the door for punters in New Jersey to also take part.
Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey, signed the deal with Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Delaware Governor John Carney.
New Jersey’s entry into the multistate agreement will also increase jackpots and opportunities for play, with operators able to offer customers the chance to play against punters in the other two states in games such as poker, tournaments and progressive slot games.
Should an operator wish to offer such services to players, regulators in each of the three states would need to approve the game software that will be used.
Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey remain the only three states in the US to have legalised certain forms of online gaming.
“New Jersey has been a pioneer in the development of authorised, regulated online gaming, which has been a budding success since its launch in late 2013,” Christie said in a statement.
“Pooling players with Nevada and Delaware will enhance annual revenue growth, attract new consumers, and create opportunities for players and Internet gaming operators.
“This agreement marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for online gaming, and we look forward to working with our partners in Nevada and Delaware in this endeavour.”
Meanwhile, New Jersey has revealed further growth in its own online gaming market, with revenue from internet gambling in September up 25.6% year-on-year to $20.4m (€17.3m).
Casino win climbed 2.4% year-on-year to $215.4m, meaning that total gaming win for the month increased 4.1% from $226.6m in September of last year to $235.8m.
For the year-to-date, Internet gaming win stands at $183.7m, up 27.1% on the same point last year, while casino win is slightly up at $1.856bn.
Overall, to the end of September, New Jersey has generated $2.04bn in gambling revenue, 2.3% more than in the corresponding period last year.
