Spelinspektionen issues blocking order to Betmaster operator Reinvent

| By Daniel O'Boyle
Swedish regulator Spelinspektionen has issued a cease-and-desist order to Curaçao-licensed Betmaster and Bongo operator Reinvent, after ruling that it was targeting Swedish customers without a licence for the jurisdiction.

The regulator performed a check of both the Betmaster and Bongo websites and noted that they each directed marketing at Swedish customers and had on-site information in Swedish. In addition, Bongo offered withdrawals, deposits and prizes in Swedish Kronor.

The watchdog also found that these sites did not stop Swedish customers from creating accounts.

Although Reinvent was given the opportunity to comment, Spelinspektionen said it had not received a response.

Reinvent is the 19th operator to be blocked by Spelinspektionen. Among the others blocked are 1xBet, which was one of 10 operators that received cease and desist orders in July 2020.

According to Spelinspektionen’s strategy for tackling unlicensed activity, published in December 2019, if Reinvent does not leave the market, it will be fined – and, should this fail to deter the operator, the regulator will turn to the police.
