William Hill retains retail lead as D.C. market grows in October

1 minute read
Washington D.C.’s lottery saw stakes grow 27.8% month-over-month in October, though its city-wide mobile offering continues to be outstripped by William Hill’s retail sportsbook at the US capital’s Capital One Arena.

Amounts staked via the Intralot-powered Gambet app climbed to $4.2m, with customers winning $3.4m. Assuming there were no adjustments, revenue was up 64.8% to $822,101 for the month, Gambet’s strongest to date.

This also meant that since the app’s launch in May, customers have staked $10.6m via Gambet, winning $8.8m, for revenue of $1.8m.

However, the William Hill-branded temporary sportsbook at the Capital One Arena continues to outperform Gambet, despite its limited reach and lack of a mobile offering.

Amounts wagered at the venue were up 17.8% from September to $14.4m, with customers winning back $11.6m. This left revenue of $2.7m, up 108.2% month-on-month, and taxes of $271,777 for the city.
