DraftKings and FanDuel in merger talks – reports

Daily fantasy sports (DFS) operators DraftKings and FanDuel are reportedly in talks over a potential merger.

Citing sources close to the discussions, Bloomberg reported that talks have been going on for some time, with investors from both brands involved.

The sources added that no final transaction had been agreed and there is still a chance that the proposed deal may not progress.

Although the news has been reported by a host of major US media outlets, both DraftKings and FanDuel have so far declined to comment.

The reported talks come at a tough time for both brands, which have been caught up in a lengthy row over the legality of such gaming in the US.

While some states have introduced legislation that specifically legalises DFS, others have outlawed this form of gaming completely and moved to class DFS as illegal gambling.

Thus far, DraftKings has agreed not to accept paid entries to its contests in nine states, while FanDuel has ended paid competitions in 10 states across the US.
