Portugal online gaming revenue down in second quarter

The Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ), the gambling regulator in Portugal, has said that revenue from country’s online gaming market declined in the second quarter.

Overall revenue for the internet gambling sector came in at €11.4m ($13.5m) in the three-month period, down from €13.9m in the opening quarter of the year.

Slot games were responsible for 38.1% of this figure, with poker also serving as a key source of income by contributing €3.7m to total revenue, down from €4.6m in the first quarter.

In addition, sports betting was only able to generate €13.9m during the second quarter, down 20% on the opening three months of 2017.

Football remains the most popular sport for betting with 75% of wagers, some way ahead of tennis on 14% and basketball with 8.7%.
