Spain iGaming Dashboard: Q1 2018

| By Joanne Christie
The first quarter of the year saw a significant rise in poker revenues thanks to the introduction of shared player pools with other countries

iGaming Business and Ficom Leisure are pleased to present the Spain iGaming Dashboard, providing revenue, product and player metrics on the dot.es regulated market.

The data is updated quarterly following the official release of the figures by Spanish regulator the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ).

This quarter saw a significant rise in poker revenues thanks to the introduction of player pools shared with other countries. In January PokerStars rolled out a shared player pool for France and Spain and so far the results are encouraging — poker is up 41% on the same period last year and 39% on the previous quarter.

Poker's share of the market rose to 13% in Q1, up from 9% in Q4. With Portugal having joined the shared liquidity pool in May, it's likely poker has further room for growth in the Spanish market.

Overall, Q1 online revenues were up 29% on the same quarter the previous year, but down 5.7% on the final quarter of last year. The number of active players and new registrations during the month were up on both the previous quarter and the same period last year.

Ficom Leisure also provides exclusive monthly estimates on the Italian online market in the Italy iGaming Dashboard, including operator market shares across casino, sports betting and poker.
