Global Gaming hands Fagerlund CEO role on permanent basis
Ninja Casino operator Global Gaming has appointed Tobias Fagerlund as its president and chief executive with immediate effect.
Fagerlund has been serving as acting CEO since April following the departure of Joacim Möller and will now take on the role on a permanent basis.
Fagerlund will continue to serve on the Global Gaming board as CEO, having first been appointed a director in 2016. He has previously held a number of executive positions in the industry, serving as CEO of suppliers such as Enteraction, iGame and betting exchange operator SpiffX.
The appointment comes at a challenging time for Global Gaming, which last month had its Swedish licence revoked by national regulator Spelinspektionen after discovering “serious deficiencies” in its business practices, including failings related to responsible gambling and anti-money laundering measures.
Global Gaming, which is appealing the ruling, has since had a request to suspend the revocation turned down by a Swedish Administrative Court.
However, despite this decision, Fagerlund said he remains confident that the operator is compliant with Swedish law and he will continue to push for the decision to be reversed so that it can restart activities in the country.
“I would have naturally preferred to be appointed under different circumstances, but I have no reservations in accepting it,” Fagerlund said. “I have a great deal of faith in Global Gaming and stand by what I have said in recent weeks: the regulator’s decision to revoke our licences is incorrect and disproportionate.
“We are confident that we are compliant with the requirements of the Swedish legislation, and I have faith in the judicial process and look forward to its outcome,” he continued. “We will do everything in our power to restore as much confidence as possible in us, in order to be able to offer our brands to our customers in Sweden again soon.”
