FinnPlay excited by Romanian ‘opportunity’
FinnPlay is to launch its Romanian operations through a partnership with leading land-based company Red Sevens.
The Helsinki-based company will launch sites with Red Sevens and another land-based operator in the early autumn after being awarded a licence for its Billfold platform by the Romanian authorities.
The Romanian gambling market is worth more than €1bn and despite hundreds of licences having now been issued, FinnPlay told iGamingBusiness.com that it remains a land of opportunity for operators from within the country and overseas.
“The Romanian market is still in a growth phase since opening up a couple of years ago,” said Erkki Nikunen, Finnplay’s CMO.
“With many of the existing land-based operators looking to go online, this is an opportunity for our business. The other is existing brands looking to enter further regulated markets within the European Union.”
FinnPlay offers more than 4,000 casino games from major studios as well as numerous global and localised payment integrations for operators.
While already compliant in a number of jurisdictions, including the UK, Malta and Mexico, the company said it has been keeping a close eye on developments in Sweden.
Sweden’s Lotteriinspektionen national regulatory body said last week that it could make available application documents for new licences in the country from July 10.
Nikunen added: “We continue to monitor opportunities within each market, and in terms of future jurisdictions with the recent announcement, Sweden is on our roadmap for this current year.”
