Danish gambling market boosted by betting rise
Denmark’s gambling sector grew by 7.7% in 2015, with a sharp rise in betting and casino gaming sparking the increase.
According to regulator Spillemyndigheden, preliminary figures suggest that total gross gambling revenue for the year to December 31 hit DKK8.4 billion (€1.1 billion/$1.2 billion), a considerable rise on 2014.
The 2015 figure is particularly encouraging as growth between 2012 and 2014 was just 3.3%.
Spillemyndigheden said that sports betting and online gambling revenue grew by 21% to DKK910 million in the final quarter of 2015, with the former increasing by 14% to DKK2.03 billion over the course of the year.
Online poker revenue fell slightly year-on-year in 2015 to DKK165 million, with that figure some 25% less than 2012, the year the regulated market launched.
Revenue at Denmark’s seven licensed casinos fell 6% to DKK80m in Q4, although the total for 2015 rose nearly 5% to DKK340m.
