SG Digital hands senior sportsbook role to Konstakis
Scientific Games has appointed Nikos Konstakis as vice-president sportsbook product for its SG Digital division.
In his new role, Konstakis will oversee product development for the company’s OpenBet sportsbook platform, with a particular focus on the US.
Konstakis takes on the role having previously served as vice-president trading at OpenBet, prior to which he spent 16 years with Intralot.
“I’m thrilled to have started my new role with SG Digital in an extremely exciting period for the company and our industry,” Konstakis said.
“We have a strong customer base, and I look forward to working closely alongside our partners, delivering them value with our world-class OpenBet sportsbook, as well as introducing innovative product enhancements to take the platform to the next level.”
Last week, the US Supreme Court voted to overturn the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Betting Association Act (PASPA), thus allowing states across the US to individually legalise sports betting.
SG Digital has already stated its intention to offer sports betting in the US and last month opened talks with regulators in New Jersey about the launch of its services in the state.
Keith O’Loughlin, senior vice-president sportsbook and platforms at SG Digital, said the appointment will enhance its sports betting plans in the US.
O’Loughlin said: “Appointing Nikos is an important step in our strategy towards productisation and developing the next generation of the OpenBet portfolio.
“His knowledge of the sports betting industry is a valuable asset for us, and he is already playing a key role in our preparations for entry into the US regulated market with a significantly improved proposition.”
