Two more operators secure Swedish iGaming licences

Swedish gambling regulator the Lotteriinspektionen has approved Global Gaming and Videoslots to enter the country’s re-regulated iGaming market from January 2019.

Global Gaming, via its SafeEnt Limited holding company, has been awarded online casino and sports betting licences for its no-registration iGaming brands Ninja Casino and Spellandet.com, while Videoslots has secured an online casino licence.

“We were one of the first operators to submit a licence application on August 1 2018, the first available day, and are proud to announce that all the hard work put in by our team has paid off,” Global Gaming head of compliance Linda Kärrholt said.

The operator’s chief executive Joacim Möller added that the company was thankful to have been approved by the regulator.

“It not only signals their approval of our business model but also gives us an opportunity to continue focussing on our largest market,” he explained.

Videoslots chief executive Alexander Stevendahl said that his company was optimistic about the market's potential, and thanked the Lotteriinspektionen for the opportunity to help it grow.

The two new approvals take the total number of iGaming operators awarded licences by Lotteriinspektionen to 14, with the majority handed out last Friday (November 30).

This first round of approvals saw former state monopolies AB Trav och Galopp (ATG) and Svenska Spel’s Svenska Spel Sport & Casino AB subsidiary cleared to enter the newly-regulated market from January 1. They will be joined by international operators bet365 and GVC Holdings, as well as Scandinavian companies including Kindred Group, Betsson Group, LeoVegas and Casumo.

With the Lotteriinspektionen – which will be renamed Spelinspektionen from January 2019 – having received 70 applications for iGaming licences, further approvals are expected throughout December.
