UK and Portuguese regulators secure new partnership
The UK Gambling Commission has entered into a new cooperation agreement with its Portuguese counterpart, the Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos of Instituto do Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ).
Both regulatory bodies have signed a bilateral cooperation and information exchange agreement and will now work together to strengthen their controls, improve regulation in online gambling and fight illegal gambling.
The agreement also sets out a mutual collaboration plan that is intended to drive efforts to safeguard online gambling and ensure it is conducted in a fair and open way.
The parties will also focus on stamping out excessive and unregulated gambling, as well as preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, and protecting vulnerable people from addiction or exploitation.
In a statement, the SRIJ said: “This bilateral cooperation agreement will strengthen and complement the general framework of the cooperation agreement on online gambling services signed by the gambling regulatory authorities of EEA Member States, dated November 2015.”
