Zynga reveals record mobile revenue in Q1
Zynga has said its mobile gaming operation was able to generate record revenue during the three months to March 31, 2017.
Mobile revenue in the first quarter was up by 19% year-on-year, while mobile bookings also came in at a record-high and 27% more than in the corresponding period last year.
Overall revenue at the company amounted to $194.3 million (€177.1 million) in Q1, up from $186.7 million in the first quarter of 2016, while when accounting for changes in deferred revenue of $13.1 million, bookings increased by 14% to $207.4 million.
Net loss in the quarter came in at a better-than-expected $9.5 million, although Zynga said that earnings per share for quarter were below its expectations at a loss of $0.01.
Monthly active users (MAUs) climbed 5% year-on-year and mobile MAUs also increased by 13% to 63 million, although Zynga did experience a 28% decline in web users during the three-month period.
Zynga also said that its Zynga Poker franchise achieved its highest-ever quarterly mobile performance in its 10-year history.
Frank Gibeau, chief executive of Zynga, said: “We’re off to a great start in 2017; we delivered a strong quarter, beating guidance on all key financial measures, and posting some of best results in years.”
