Italy iGaming Dashboard – March 2018
A lower sports betting margin was largely responsible for the dot.it market returning a lower total in the traditionally quieter month of February, according to estimates provided to iGaming Business by leading gaming sector advisory firm Ficom Leisure.
Regulated igaming generated €121.80m in Italy last month, down 12% on the prior month but 63% up year-on-year.
In casino, for which iGaming Business has expanded its market share coverage to 20 operators to take account of the more fragmented nature of the market compared to sports betting and poker, GGR outstripped that from sports betting as a lower margin of 10.1% for the latter saw operators return less in February than in January despite turnover being up 4.2% to €505.47m.
In remote sports betting, Planetwin365 continued its tussle with Bet365, moving ahead of the Stoke-headquartered giant with a 16.1% share of the €50.87m GGR generated in February.
This performance was enough to move Planetwin365 back ahead of Snai when retail was also included, commanding 13% of the whole Italian regulated sports betting market.
In casino, PokerStars retained its lead at the head of the casino market with 9%, although there remained little to choose between the poker-led operator and Lottomatica and Sisal.
The operator however continued to see its market share eroded in online poker. In February it took 62% of tournament GGR, down from 71% in August 2017, while in ring games this fell to 40% from 46% over the same period.
