Sports data provider Sportradar has announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence-driven product for professional sports matches that will allow players to simulate the final matches of suspended leagues.

Simulated Reality will be available to customers within Sportradar’s existing portfolio of events, offering simulated reality games and a range of pre-match and in-play betting opportunities.

Sportradar said the simulations will reflect team form and normal match play and initially cover the top-tier football leagues across England, Germany and Spain.

Simulated games will be played out over a full 90 minutes, with supporters able to bet on their favourite teams, access match analysis and league tables, while the game will be visualised by live match trackers.

Sportradar will roll out the service on 3 April and plans to expand the product in the future with other sports, including tennis and basketball.

The launch comes as many major sporting events and competitions around the world have been postponed or cancelled as a result of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. This has significantly reduced the sports betting market for consumers in markets worldwide.

“We have listened carefully to our customers and the betting community who have made it clear there is an appetite for alternative means of betting during this time where this is a void in live sports action,” Sportradar chief executive Carsten Koerl said.

“Simulated Reality will give our sports betting partners seamless access to a highly unique product that is first to market at no extra cost and integration.

“As market leaders in the industry, we pride ourselves on our ability to quickly pivot our business strategy and redirect our resources towards delivering new and innovative solutions such as this.”
