Mississippi sees further sports betting growth in September

The Mississippi Gaming Commission has reported a 17.9% year-on-year rise in sports betting revenue in September, while the US state’s handle also increased during the month.
Revenue in the month amounted to $6.6m (£5.1m/€5.6m), up from $5.6m in September of last year, while the total also represented a 78.4% increase on the $3.7m posted in August this year.
Players wagered a total of $52.2m on sports during September, up 37.7% on the previous year, and also 28.9% more than the $40.5m bet in August.
Like other states across the US, Mississippi’s growth came with the major leagues back in action, including the National Football League, which started its 2020 season in early September.
Coastal casinos remained the main source of sports betting income in September, with revenue at these venues reaching $3.8m – more than the state’s total revenue for the same month in 2019.
