France sets online revenue record in Q1

French regulator ARJEL has revealed that the county’s regulated online gaming market generated a record €147m ($175.3m) in betting revenue during the first quarter.

The amount, 55% more than in the opening three months of last year, is the highest quarterly figure since the regulated French market launched back in 2010.

Operators licensed in the country took €847m in online sports wagers during the first quarter, representing another quarterly record for France and a 34% rise on last year.

Football bets were up by 34% year-on-year to €465m, with tennis wagers also rising 26% to €163m and basketball bets 53% to €125m.

Horse-racing wagers also increased for the fourth consecutive quarter to €270m.

ARJEL also noted that the average number of weekly active bettors jumped 36% year-on-year to 462,500, due in part to a 53% rise in bonus offers available from licensed operators.
