The strong performance of Italy’s online casino market offset a year-on-year decline in online betting revenue in November, according to Ficom Leisure.

Total online revenue across all verticals was up 6.6% from the prior year at €146.2m, with online casino and slots the standout performer. Casino revenue climbed 24.9% from November 2018, with PokerStars growing its market share to 10.8% during the month. Sisal remains in second place, with an 8.2% share, ahead of Lottomatica in third with 8.1%.

Casino’s showing was necessary to avoid a month-on-month decline in revenue, as sports betting once again struggled. The revenue decline seen in October sped up in November, with the total of €123.4m across both channels representing a 16.9% drop from the prior year.

Online betting revenue fell 8.0% to €59.9m, with retail’s monthly total down 23.8% to €63.6m.

Bet365 and SKS365’s PlanetWin365 continue to lead the way online, though both saw market share decline in November. The Stoke-headquartered operator’s share fell to 13.9% – though this still accounted for 6.7% of the combined online and retail market – with PlanetWin365 just 0.2% behind.

Goldbet, meanwhile, has carved out a strong retail position, and is the largest sports betting operator in Italy across all channels. While its online share of 8.6% makes it the sixth-largest operator, a retail market share of 21.0% pushes it to the top of the combined rankings.

Turning to online poker, both tournament and cash game revenue fell marginally, to €6.5m and €5.1m respectively. As usual, PokerStars is utterly dominant in tournaments (58.8% market share) and cash games (43.0%). No other operator carved out double-digit percentages.

Bingo, meanwhile, enjoyed a strong month, with revenue up 21.1% year-on-year to €3.4m.
