Macau suffers 25th straight month of gaming decline

The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau has revealed that the Chinese province in June suffered its 25th consecutive month of gaming revenue decline.

The 15.8 billion patacas (€1.8 billion/$2 billion) collected last month represents an 8.5% drop on the amount generated in June of last year, slightly lower than analysts’ expectations of a 9.5% decline.

The June 2016 total is also the lowest monthly recorded by the Chinese province since September 2010.

However, despite monthly revenues being approximately half what they were two years ago, the level of decline has slowed in recent times.

In four of the past five months, Macau has reported only single-digit year-on-year declines, compared to much higher double-digit drops last year.

February 2015 marked the largest year-on-year monthly decline for the region, with gaming revenue having fallen 48.6% in the month.
