OpenBet takes record wagers from Mayweather-McGregor bout
NYX Gaming Group has revealed that its OpenBet platform processed a record number of stakes during the recent boxing match between mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor and undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
The bout, which took place last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada in the US, yielded an increase of 530% in total stakes and 375% in the overall number of bets over the previous record set during Mayweather’s fight with Manny Pacquiao in 2015.
NYX said 85% of bets were placed on the underdog McGregor, although the total stakes were £1m (€1.1m/$1.3m) higher for Mayweather.
Punters placed an average bet of £20 on McGregor, with Mayweather attracting an average bet of £120.
Keith O’Loughlin, executive vice-president at OpenBet, said: “OpenBet proved again that the platform we offer to operators can scale to cover very significant spikes of business.
“The resilience and scalability of OpenBet allows us to smash previous records with confidence and we continuously offer our customers a great experience 24×7 when it matters most.
“OpenBet, our customers, punters, Mayweather and McGregor all came out winners on one of the biggest fights in history – that's pretty unique.”
