Pennsylvania fantasy revenue falls again in January

Pennsylvania has reported its second consecutive month decline in revenue from its regulated fantasy sports market.

January revenue declined to $2.1m (£1.6m/€1.9m), according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, down 26% on December’s $2.8m take, with the vast majority once again coming from daily fantasy market leaders DraftKings and FanDuel. The pair accounted for 96% of the monthly total.

DraftKings led the way with revenue of $1.0m, though this represented a 24% month-on-month decline. FanDuel, meanwhile, also saw revenue drop 24% to $998,218.08.

Coming in behind the top two was Yahoo Fantasy Sports, which recovered from posting a loss of $88,878.96 in December to generate revenue of $41,878.21. DRAFT held onto fourth place, despite revenue falling 46% to $35,986.44.

The number of operators to generate revenue in January declined to seven with last months’ third-placed licensee, Fantasy Football Players Championship, and sixth-placed Full Time Fantasy Sports, both disappearing from the revenue table.

The remaining seven licensees, which are taxed at 15% of gross revenue, paid total taxes of $317,474.59 in January, down 26% on December’s $429,075.51 take.
