Vietnam approves land-based casino trial period

The Vietnamese government has given the go-ahead to a new three-year pilot scheme that will enable consumers in the country to gamble in approved, land-based casinos.

According to the Reuters news agency, a decree will come into effect on March 15, with the scheme being open to people aged over 21 and have a monthly income of at least 10 million dong (€412/$443).

Casinos that wish to be featured in the trial must be part of an entertainment and hotel complex project with investment capital of at least $2 billion, half of which must have been disbursed, and comply with various other requirements.

Three years after the first project opens under the scheme, the government will review the decree and decide whether to continue with the system.

At present, fewer than 10 casinos operate in Vietnam, with the venues only open to foreign passport-holders.
