ICE 365 Graton Rancheria on casinos during Covid-19
The Covid-19 pandemic almost completely shut down the US casino sector, with many operators opting to lay off staff. Graton Resort & Casino, the property operated by the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, took a different route.

Instead of looking to cut costs, the tribal operator actually raised the minimum wage for its staff. Chairman Greg Sarris explains the rationale behind the move, and how it managed to weather the worst effects of the pandemic in this keynote presentation.

This forms part of a three-part series, that also sees Sarris talk to Ewa Bakun about the prospects for legal betting and igaming in California, and the tribe’s long fight to secure federal recognition.
