Playtech is to deploy a new native-first product line to support operator partners in preparation for the introduction of new guidelines for Apple’s App Store next month.

The igaming solutions provider has been running a native casino app for the past three years and will now build on this by rolling out a line that includes fully native gaming content and natively compiled games.

The move enables customers to build native apps that are iOS compatible by using a Software Development Kit (SDK) without the need for any additional software developers.

In June, Apple announced that it will only allow gambling apps native to iOS to be hosted in its App Store, with operators having until September 3 to ensure their products comply.

The update to clause 4.7 in Apple’s guidelines specifically refers to real-money gambling, lottery, charitable donation and digital commerce apps.

Peter Mares, chief technology officer of Playtech Games Innovation Labs, said: “These changes have created yet another Apple-shaped hoop for operators to jump through. Luckily, we have been in the game for a very long time and understand that in order to succeed, we need to provide a solution that is guaranteed to help our licensees continue operating as usual.

“To this end, we’re pleased to be able to support our customers in their preparation with a core, native-first product line, including a selection of fully native gaming content and natively compiled games.”

Playtech’s existing native casino app features all back-end functionality usually offered to operators, including integration with Playtech’s Engagement 360 platform, compatibility with third-party gamification tools and the BetBuddy Responsible Gambling platform.
