Scientific targets US sports betting with GeoComply
Scientific Games has agreed a partnership with GeoComply ahead of the potential expansion of legalised sports betting in the US.
GeoComply will integrate its geolocation technology into the OpenBet sports betting platform, which is operated by Scientific’s SG Digital business.
This will enable SG Digital to verify where a player is located when they place a bet and establish whether this is from within a regulated jurisdiction.
US punters can only currently place legal sports bets in Nevada, but this could change if New Jersey is successful in overturning the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).
PASPA blocks states from legalising sports wagering, but should the US Supreme Court rule in favour of New Jersey, this could open up the regulated market to other states.
Quinton Singleton, vice-president of corporate stagey and government affairs at SG Digital, said: “Having recently announced that our sports betting solution is already under review by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, Scientific Games sees itself at the forefront of the industry to mobilise and offer live online sports wagering as soon as the law permits.
“GeoComply’s technology is key for preparing and licensing our solution in such a highly anticipated time in our industry.”

“This move ideally positions Scientific Games as the industry awaits the Supreme Court decision on the PASPA.”
