Betway becomes Grand National partner
Betway has become the official betting partner of the Grand National Festival in a new three-year deal.
The online bookmaker, which already sponsors the Betway Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, will partner the Aintree event from this year’s three-day meeting in April.
As part of the deal, Betway – which gained Authorised Betting Partner status in October 2016 – will sponsor four Grade One contests over the three days at the Merseyside course.
It is the latest major racing deal for Betway, who recently announced sponsorship deals with Grade Two races taking place in February at Warwick and Wincanton.
Betfred was the official betting partner of the festival from 2014 to 2016.
“The Grand National Festival at Aintree is a hugely important race meeting and we’re delighted to be its new official betting partner,” said Anthony Werkman, marketing and operations director at Betway.
“With the Betway Champion Chase in March, the Betway Lincoln on 1st April and now our sponsorship at Aintree, spring is going to be a very exciting time of year for us.”
On Grand Opening Day, Betway now sponsor the Betway Bowl Steeple Chase and the Betway Aintree Hurdle, on Ladies Day they also back the Betway Mildmay Novices’ Steeple Chase and on Grand National Day itself, the Betway Mersey Novices’ Hurdle.
The firm will also back the Betway Handicap Steeple Chase, which is run on Grand National Day prior to the famous steeplechase.
John Baker, managing director of Aintree Racecourse, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Betway as the new official betting partner of the Randox Health Grand National Festival in a three-year deal. We’re delighted that they have taken five high-quality races over the course of the three days.
“This year’s Randox Health Grand National is already lining up to be another spectacular race with 110 quality entries announced last week. In addition to Betway, we look forward to working with a new, exciting headline sponsor in Randox and a new and respected broadcast partner in ITV Racing.”
