Amaya-owned PokerStars has moved to expand the reach of its new BetStars sports betting brand by launching the service in France.

A beta version of the French-facing platform is available online at BetStars.fr, as well as on iOS and Android mobile devices and through the PokerStars.fr desktop client

French customers will initially be able to bet on seven sports, although BetStars plans to expand this selection over the coming months, with players soon to be given a wide range of betting markets and in-play options.

Punters in the country will also benefit from a single-wallet experience across the PokerStars and BetStars brands.

Eric Hollreiser, vice-president of corporate communications for Amaya, said: “The launch of BetStars.fr means that French customers have a safe, secure and convenient place to bet on sports.

“As we roll out our offering in different countries, we can see that the crossover between poker players and sports bettors is strong.”

Last month, Amaya revealed plans to launch BetStars in France and Italy ahead of this year’s Euro 2016 national football team tournament, which is currently taking place in the country.

However, Amaya was only able to ensure the service went live in Italy before the competition kicked off on June 10, with the French launch coming at the end of the first round of group stage games.
