DraftKings partners Peermont to launch new South African sportsbook
Powered by DraftKings’ B2B sports betting technology that it owns through the SBTech acquisition, PalaceBet.co.za will be Peermont’s first venture into the online sports wagering market.
Data integrations with Betgenius and IMG will allow players to wager on a wide range of national and international sports including basketball, cricket, football, tennis and rugby.
DraftKings will roll out features such as a bet builder and odds boosts, while customers will also be able to access draw-based ‘Lucky Numbers’ games.
“We are delighted that DraftKings’ B2B technology is powering Peermont’s entry into sports betting, through which they can provide their customers with extensive markets, live betting opportunities, competitive pricing and localised payment options,” DraftKings’ chief international officer Shay Berka said.
PalaceBet general manager Iain Gutteridge added: “The way we’re looking to grow and to compete on an international scale, we knew that DraftKings could offer the software solution so that we could not only offer variety, but quality to our clients.”
Sports betting is currently the only form of online gambling permitted in South Africa, with all other igaming activities deemed illegal.
Last month, South Africa’s National Gambling Board (NGB) reiterated that online casino is not legal in the country, despite calls from a number of major land-based operators to also legalise this form of gambling.
Tsogo Sun previously described online casino as a “natural progression” from online wagering, while Sun International said it was lobbying the South African Department of Trade and Industry to allow online casino.
