Playtech BGT Sports smashes Wimbledon turnover record
iGaming solutions giant Playtech has revealed that its Playtech BGT Sports (PBS) omni-channel sports betting business processed a record number of bets during this year’s Wimbledon tennis championships.
Punters wagered more than £9m (€10.0m/$11.2m) across all PBS channels during the tournament, up 50% on the previous year.
Mobile proved to be the platform of choice for consumers, with PBS noting year-on-year growth of 300% in terms of turnover.
PBS noted that mobile was boosted by its BetTracker app, which allows users to place a bet at in-person via a self-service betting terminal (SSBT) and track its progress on mobile, with the option to cash out.
“While our continued growth in bets taken on our SSBTs come as no surprise, the exponential growth in popularity of our mobile-based betting was ace and knocked our forecasts out of the court,” PBS senior commercial director, Lee Drabwell, said.
“BetTracker and similar products continue to improve both user experience and operator revenues. By continuing to bring technology that is now routine online into retail estates for the first time, we are seeing greater customer adoption and the benefit of significant increased revenues for our operators.”
Wimbledon 2019 ran from July 1-14, with Novak Djokovic claiming victory in the men’s single event and Simona Halep winning the women’s singles competition.
