G2E video interview: William Hill’s Joe Asher talks to Fantini Research
Joe Asher, chief executive of William Hill US, speaks to Fantini Research during the G2E trade show in Las Vegas about the state of sports betting in the US.
Asher doesn’t hold back when giving his views on current legislation across most of the US, which he says allows black market sports betting to thrive and means consumers are going unprotected.
Recent litigation in New Jersey has helped generate attention about the need for change in sports betting regulations, he says, and the huge popularity of daily fantasy sports has also highlighted the strong demand for legal ways for Americans to bet on sports.
However things progress, Asher believes there is no doubt that “eventually the prohibition of sports betting will go away”.
When and if that finally happens, William Hill should be well positioned to take advantage of any new opportunities – it already has 108 sportbooks operating throughout Nevada and a regular pipeline of social and virtual products being launched.
