Italy’s igaming market rebounded in April, falling marginally short of a record monthly return.
According to figures provided exclusively to iGamingBusiness.com by Ficom Leisure, regulated operators in the dot.it market generated total revenues across sports betting, casino, poker and bingo of €157.86m, just shy of the total from December 2017.
Sports betting accounted for €75.5m or 47.8% of the total revenue from the market, with Bet365 retaining the lead it has held over Planetwin365 since December 2018.
The Stoke-headquartered operator commanded 14.6% of online sports betting revenue to Planetwin365’s 12.6% in April, with this translating into a 6.3% share of the total Italian betting segment.
With the ban on advertising set to encompass all sports sponsorship, including advertising hoardings, from July, Bet365’s multi-channel rivals will however be able to continue to display branding on signage and shop fronts, meaning its position may come under threat.
Casino revenues dipped 7% on the prior month but were up 16% year-on-year to €67.4m.
PokerStars contined to lead the way in this vertical as well as both poker formats, with an 11.12% share of the market, ahead of Sisal and Lottomatica.
Poker suffered month-over-month declines in both cash games and tournaments.
