Italy iGaming Dashboard – September 2019
Italy’s online gaming market has recovered from a summer lull in June, to grow across July and August.
We apologise for the lack of a dashboard last month, which was due to delays in the data being published by AAMS. The infographic below contains figures for both July and August.
Revenue for July increased 3.0% year-on-year to €124.2m, with August’s €136.1m representing a 14.3% improvement on the prior year.
After the online sports betting vertical posted its lowest monthly total of the year to date (of €42.5m) in June, it recovered strongly across July and August. Sports betting GGR was up 11.2% month-on-month to €47.2m in July, then grew to €56.4m in August, as the major European football leagues started the 2019-20 season.
However online casino is firmly established as the leading vertical, with revenue of €64.5m and €67.1m in July and August respectively. Poker tournaments and cash games both hovered around the €5.0m mark for each month, though online bingo has seen a gradual but steady rise in revenue.
Looking at Italy in terms of market share, for sports betting bet365 remains king – for online at least. It’s 14.7% online share keeps it ahead of SKS365’s PlanetWin365, with 13.1%, closely followed by the Playtech-owned Snaitech on 12.8%.
For the combined online and retail betting markets, however, Snaitech comes out on top with a 15.2% share of the market across both channels. It is followed by Goldbet – the current retail market leader – with 14.5%.
For casino and poker, The Stars Group reigns supreme, with market-leading shares of Italy’s online casino, poker tournament and cash game markets. In each vertical it is closely followed by Sisal.
