Denmark iGaming Dashboard: Q1 2020
iGaming Business and Ficom Leisure are pleased to present the Denmark iGaming Dashboard, providing revenue and product metrics on the dot.dk regulated market.
The regulated igaming market opened the year flat on the previous quarter as although betting revenues rose to their highest level for more than a year, casino revenues fell by a similar amount.
Q1’s overall online GGR of €131.7m was also flat on the same period the previous year, when the market achieved GGR of €130.8m.
Sports betting outperformed the wider market, however, with GGR of €57.1m representing a 5% rise on the previous quarter and a 2.9% rise on the same period last year.
In casino, GGR fell to €74.5m, a 3.1% drop on the previous quarter and a 1% fall on the first quarter of 2019.
This saw betting take a slightly larger share of the online market, though at 43.3% it still lags casino by some way.
Unlike some other European countries, Denmark remains a casino-skewed market, with online betting having taken a larger slice of the igaming market than casino in only one quarter since the regulated market opened.
Within the casino vertical, slots continue to become ever more dominant – since the first quarter of last year the percentage of casino revenue attributable to slots has risen 3.6%, taking its share to 74.0% in the first quarter of this year.
Table games such as roulette and blackjack have declined in popularity over the same period, with their percentages falling to 9.1% from 10.1% and 7.1% from 8.6%, respectively, since the first quarter of 2019.
The share of online play taking place on mobiles fell back slightly last quarter to 44.79%, though it’s clear the direction of travel over the past few years has generally been towards mobile and away from desktop.
The number of registrations for Denmark’s ROFUS self-exclusion programme have continued to increase steadily, with registrations up 7.2% in Q1 when compared with the previous quarter.
