Italy reveals significant online gaming growth in 2015
Italian gambling regulatory body Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (AAMS) has reported that profit generated by the country’s online casino market grew by 31.2% year-on-year during the 12 months through to December 31, 2015.
According to Italian gaming website AGIMEG.it, the country’s market collected a total of €327.5 million (€355.3 million) in profit, on revenue of €9.4 billion.
Sports betting generated profit of €254 million, up 19% from the previous year, on revenue of €5.5 billion, which was also up 28%.
However, despite these increases, the Italian online poker market suffered losses in the past year, with profit falling 4.2% to €71.3 million on revenue of €727 million.
Lottomatica retained its position as the leading operator within the country’s online gaming sector with 14.7% of the market share, followed by Sisal with a 9.6% share and William Hill with 8.3%.
