PokerStars sets date for New Jersey launch
PokerStars will return to the US on March 21 as it confirmed the date of its New Jersey launch.
The Amaya-owned gaming site – commonly accepted as the world's largest online poker platform with more than 100 million registered customers – ceased US operations in 2011, but was awarded a licence by New Jersey’s regulator in October 2015.
PokerStars, which will offer poker, table games and slots through its partnership with Atlantic City’s Resorts Casino Hotel, will undergo testing by state regulators before its debut.
“PokerStars is the global leader in online poker and trusted by its customers for its robust and innovative technology, world-class security and game integrity,” David Baazov, Amaya's chairman and chief executive, said.
“We are honoured and excited to now bring these experiences to New Jersey.”
PokerStars tried on two occasions in 2013 to gain a licence in New Jersey, but the state's Division of Gaming Enforcement suspended the company for up to two years, citing legal problems involving some company executives, including an unresolved indictment against its founder.
PokerStars also tried to buy the Atlantic Club Casino, but that deal fell apart and the casino shut down in January 2014.
