Betfair secures industry-first deal with Drone Racing League
Betfair has agreed a deal with the Drone Racing League (DRL) to offer a first-of-its-kind service at the final race of the World Championship circuit.
Under the partnership, Betfair will provide race betting services at the event on June 13 at Alexandra Palace in London, England.
Punters on-site can bet on the individual heat winners of each of the seven heats as well as the overall winner of the World Championship, with spectators able to place wagers via the Betfair sports betting mobile application.
“Drone racing is a sport made for betting; it combines the raw thrill of short track racing with the complexity and strategy of motor sports,” DRL founder and chief executive Nicholas Horbaczewsk said.
“The World Championship race will be the first time a live audience will see the thrill of professional drone racing up close, and the inclusion of betting will make it that much more exciting for fans.”
The championship event will be the first professional drone race to take place in the UK.
Stephen Mault, head of marketing at Betfair added: “This is a great opportunity and we're excited to see how a partnership like this will play out for us in the future given the rise in popularity of the sport of drone racing.
“Innovation and technology are the lifeblood of everything we do at Betfair and we are committed to constantly finding ways of enhancing and improving the experience of our customers.”
