Catena Media has acquired online poker news and traffic comparison website PokerScout.com and related assets, in connection with the passage of gaming legislation in the US state of Pennsylvania.

In a statement, Catena Media said the deal, worth $350,000 (€299,900), will now contribute to a brand-first strategy in the US and global markets.

Catena Media also said it will improve the usability and visibility of PokerScout, as well as contribute to the brand’s continued growth in various markets such as Pennsylvania, which this week became only the fourth US state to legalise some form of online gambling.

The firm already operates a number of media assets in Pennsylvania and owns several domains tailored to the market, and PokerScout will now enhance this service offering.

Henrik Persson Ekdahl, chief executive of Catena Media, said: “We are proud of the acquisition of PokerScout, which is the leading traffic comparison site for the online poker industry.

“This acquisition is well timed, given that Pennsylvania is set to open their market for online gaming; we hope that more states will follow in Pennsylvania's footsteps.

“We have been prepared for a long time and this is a milestone for our continued expansion in the US.”
