Austrian Lotteries has increased the age limit for purchasing lottery tickets and scratch-off tickets to 18 years old.
Austrian Lotteries specified that this will be a voluntarily self-limitation measure, which is also the case with the over-16s age limit that is still currently in force.
The new age limit means that those under the age of 18 will not be allowed to participate in lottery games, such as the EuroMillions, or buy scratch-off or postal tickets.
Austrian Lotteries also stated that lottery retailers will still be obliged to carry out ID checks on customers if necessary.
The age limit rise will take effect from 10 July 2023.
Last week, Bundesministerium Finanzen, Austria’s financial police handed out €492,000 (£424,915/$525,119) in fines for illegal gambling activities that took place during the first quarter of the year.
