Holland Casino online granted five-year licence extension 

Holland Casino Online has secured a five-year extension to its Dutch online gambling licence, the Netherlands Gaming Authority (Kansspelautoriteit) announced on Thursday. 

The licence extension will commence on 1 October 2026, enabling the operator to continue offering its online gambling portfolio within the regulated Dutch market until at least 2031.

‘Keep regulated market attractive enough’

The licence renewal confirmed the regulator’s ongoing endorsement of Holland Casino Online. 

Petra de Ruiter, chief executive of Holland Casino, stated, “we will continue to commit to a safe and responsible online offering, where player protection always comes first. 

“At the same time, it remains essential that the regulated market is attractive enough to keep players away from unregulated providers, where supervision and protection are lacking,” she added.

Keeping the regulated market attractive enough has also been at the forefront of KSA’s mind, as it addressed accusations of Betcity and TOTO Winkel violating the ban of role models in gambling advertising. 

The government’s near complete ad ban was introduced in June. 

Tax hikes for Holland Casino

The extension comes a few months after the Netherlands’ gambling tax hike was implemented in January. The tax rate initially jumped to 34.2% of GGR in January 2025 but with the full increase of 37.8% earlier this year. 

Holland Casino was one of the first to hit back at the gambling tax hike, claiming that the increase will cut back on the operator’s profit moving forward. On reflecting the first tax hike of 34.2%, an additional €13.5 million was incurred in costs during H1 of 2025 for the operator. 

The government confirmed that it would mitigate with the operator around the tax hike following last year’s announcement that Holland Casino would not be privatised. 

The Ministry of Finance had expected to collect an additional €200 million annually between 2025 and 2028, it said in September when the tax hike was approved.
