Nevada revenue beats $1bn for third consecutive month
The Nevada Gaming Control Board has confirmed that the US state’s regulated gambling market surpassed $1bn (€829.1m) in revenue for the third straight month in March.
Revenue for the month amounted to $1.03bn, up 3.4% year-on-year on March of 2017.
Nevada has not recorded three consecutive months of over $1bn in gambling revenue since 2008, while the state’s most successful billion-dollar streak lasted for eight months from October 2006 to March 2007, according to the Associated Press.
The Control Board cited game and table winnings as the main reason behind the increase in March, with this total up 13.5% year-on-year to $381m.
Baccarat had a particularly strong month, with winnings from the game up 110.6% to $117.2m, while volume also jumped 44.8%.
Casinos on the Las Vegas strip in Nevada collected $574m in revenue in March, up 9.1% on last year, but casinos in the downtown area suffered a 14.2% drop in revenue.
Sports fans wagered a total of $521.6m, a record amount for the month of March, with sportsbooks in the state winning $34.2m from this spend.
