The Rank Group has appointed Alex Thursby as a non-executive director, with effect from August 1.

Thursby will take on the role after having most recently served as chief executive of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi.

Earlier in his career, Thursby also held senior roles at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, as well as Standard Chartered Bank.

Rank chairman Ian Burke said: “I am pleased to welcome Alex to the Rank board.  We look forward to working with him and benefiting from his experience of developing new, and transforming existing, businesses with the use of technology platforms.

“His extensive experience in compliance and risk governance in a highly regulated sector will also further strengthen our board.”

Meanwhile, Rank has announced that Owen O'Donnell, who is currently chair of the audit committee, will not seek re-election at the firm’s 2017 annual general meeting.

O’Donnell will step down from the role later this year after nine years on the board.

Chairman Burke added: “On behalf of Rank, I would like to thank Owen for his valuable contribution as a director during his nine-year tenure on the board and his excellent chairmanship of the audit committee over the last three years.”
