Spain iGaming Dashboard: Q4 2018

| By Stephen Carter
Growth in the dot.es market trailed off during Q4 2018 as player registrations and actives fell sharply during the final two months
iGaming Business and Ficom Leisure are pleased to present the Spain iGaming Dashboard, providing revenue, product and player metrics on the dot.es regulated market. The data is updated quarterly following the official release of the figures by Spanish regulator the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ). The dot.es market returned modest GGR growth of 4.21% on the prior quarter to €189.5m (£166.3m/$216.4m), despite a surge in marketing expenditure, up 10.74% year-on-year.  This compared to a 29.9% year-on-year increase in GGR in Q3 of 2018. Player registrations and actives dropped off during November and December following an month-over-month increase in October. A weakened performance from pre-match betting in December resulted in a 5.31% quarter-on-quarter decrease over the quarter, but this was offset by in-play, which increased by 13.13% despite a similarly poor December return. Following betting, casino accounted for €64.77m of the total with the DGOJ citing slots as the key driver behind a 6.38% quarterly increase and a 32.59% year-on-year rise. The quarterly performance saw betting account for 52.2% of the dot.es total over the trailing 12 months, compared to 34% for casino. Ficom Leisure also provides exclusive monthly estimates on the Italian online market in the Italy iGaming Dashboard, including operator market shares across casino, sports betting and poker.
