Gerard Griffin has become the latest former Electronic Arts executive to move to Zynga after becoming the social gaming firm’s new chief financial officer.

Griffin spent 10 years with EA, most recently serving as senior vice-president of finance, where he was finance leader for the company’s Studios, Marketing and Publishing organisations.

Prior to that role he spent six years as vice-president and chief financial officer for EA International, where he was lead finance partner to EA’s chief operating officer and Global Publishing organisation.

“I've always had a passion for media and entertainment, and I'm incredibly excited by Zynga's unique ability to connect people around the world through games,” Griffin said.

“With a strong portfolio of innovative IP, deep player relationships and incredible talent, the company is well positioned to be a leader in the growing mobile industry.”

Frank Gibeau, chief executive of Zynga, added: “Gerard's 25 years of financial experience and deep understanding of the games, media and technology industries will be instrumental to Zynga.

“His disciplined financial leadership and approach of working closely with teams to deliver high margin digital revenue, coupled with his ability to navigate business turnarounds, will help put us in a stronger position to achieve long-term growth.”

In August, Zynga also appointed former EA executive Matt Bromberg as its new chief operating officer.
