BGaming brings its sustainability initiative to Portugal
Popular iGaming content provider BGaming is bringing its sustainability initiative to Portugal through its WE CARE. WE ACT commitment.
As a part of the project, BGaming has incorporated recycled materials into its SBC Summit stand and merchandise, supported local non-profit organisation VIVA Lab, and taken part in a team beach clean-up in Lisbon. Together, these activities take the project beyond the exhibition floor, combining more conscious choices with tangible support for the local community and environment.
BGaming’s stand at SBC Summit gave the initiative a tangible physical presence, incorporating panels made from recycled materials into its design. The studio also reduced its use of printed materials at the event, providing visitors with a single recyclable card featuring a QR code instead of traditional brochures and product leaflets. By switching to digital materials, BGaming avoided printing approximately 16kg of paper.
This is also true of its merchandise, which includes a line made from organic, eco-friendly cotton, as well as custom poker sets made from 100% recycled plastic, with more than 95% of the material coming from post-consumer waste and no glue or toxic additives used. The gifts also included carabiners made using 7kg of recycled plastic, giving the material a new purpose. As a result, the merchandise serves as a tangible reminder of the environmental and sustainability principles BGaming seeks to promote.
After the expo, BGaming took part in a beach clean-up organised by the Lisbon Oceanarium. In just two hours, the BGaming team collected 2kg of plastic and 1kg of cigarette butts from the beach. The team cleaned up waste near Lisbon that might have otherwise been swept into the ocean and damaged the wider ecosystem. It also provided an excellent team-building opportunity and allowed them the opportunity to put the WE CARE. WE ACT principle into action.
BGaming has also partnered with VIVA Lab, a Porto-based laboratory that specialises in turning ideas into real-world projects through education. They are also involved in plastic recycling and the production of machines for processing recycled plastics.
As part of this partnership, BGaming will support VIVA Lab’s Precious Plastic project and Plastic Play educational activities. Through a series of 10 activities, up to 240 students will learn how to reuse and transform plastic rather than simply throw it away, with approximately 60kg-70 kg of polypropylene (PP) transformed in the process, generating measurable social, environmental and educational impact.
Kate Puteiko, CMO at BGaming, said: “WE CARE. WE ACT is not just a slogan for us; it is a principle we operate by. Lisbon is such a marvellous city, and it welcomes the entire industry every year for the expo. We want to make sure that we, as part of the industry, give back to Portugal.
“It has been a pleasure to work closely with VIVA Lab. This organisation is doing a fantastic job of raising awareness of the issues facing our environment, and we are proud to support them in reaching their goals.
“The beach clean-up is the part I was looking forward to the most. As a team, it is easy to say you care, but actually getting involved and doing something is what really matters.”
Alexandra Baltazar, chief education officer at VIVA Lab Porto, said: “This partnership has been very important for VIVA Lab because it allows us to reach and inspire more young people through Plastic Play, using plastic recycling as a hands-on tool for learning about sustainability and the circular economy.
“With the development of the manual, this impact can go even further, as the activities can be replicated across Europe by other spaces working with Precious Plastic machines.”
