Pennsylvania gambling revenue reaches record $574.5 million in March

Revenue in March was 3.6% more than in the same month last year and 20.4% above the total for February. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) published the latest monthly statistics yesterday (21 April).
Pennsylvania sets new igaming revenue record
Igaming was once again the star of the show in Pennsylvania, generating a record $238.2 million in revenue. This surpassed March of 2024 by 24.7%.
Online slots accounted for $179.5 million of this total, a year-on-year rise of 32.5%. Internet table games revenue also climbed 5.8% to $56.2 million, while online poker revenue was up 3.3% to $2.6 million.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course and its online gaming partners collected the most revenue. In total, their revenue from online gambling across slots, tables and poker in March reached $90.7 million.
Valley Forge Casino Resort placed second with $64.8 million, then Rivers Casino Philadelphia at $38.6 million for the month.
Sports betting revenue down despite improved handle
Turning to sports betting, revenue in this segment fell 40.7% year-on-year to $27 million in March. Online betting accounted for $25.6 million of all revenue, with retail’s share at $1.5 million.
Handle-wise, players spent $842.9 million, an increase of 5.3% from March last year. Online wagers totalled $806.3 million and retail $36.6 million.
This resulted in a modest statewide hold of 3.2% for Pennsylvania.
In terms of sports betting operators, FanDuel and Valley Forge Casino Resort kept hold of top spot. The partnership generated $9.4 million in revenue off a $328.6 million handle, leaving a 2.86% hold.
DraftKings and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows ranked second with $8.8 million from $209.2 million for a 4.21% hold. BetMGM and partner Hollywood Casino Morgantown took third with $1.9 million from $78.2 million, meaning a hold of 2.43%.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National and ESPN Bet were next with $1.5 million off $35.1 million for a 4.27% hold. Rivers Casino Pittsburgh and its BetRivers sportsbook followed with $1.2 million from $26.3 million, leaving a 4.56% hold. Parx Casino took $1.1 million off $15.7 million for a 7.01% hold.
Fanatics Sportsbook, which partners with Hollywood Casino York for online betting, was the only other operator with revenue in excess of $1 million. The partnership heralded $1.1 million in revenue from $58.9 million for a 1.9% hold.
Land-based gambling decline continues
As for land-based gambling, Pennsylvania saw more declines across the market.
Retail slots remain the main source of gambling revenue in Pennsylvania at $222.5 million, although this was down 2.4%. Table games revenue also fell 3.9% to $81.9 million.
Elsewhere, video game terminal (VGT) revenue was down by 0.6% to $3.7 million, but daily fantasy sports revenue edged up 6.9% to $1.2 million.
In terms of tax, Pennsylvania collected $244.3 million from all gambling activity in March. A large portion of this, $106.3 million, came from igaming.
Sports betting tax topped $9.7 million, retail slots $112.5 million and land-based table games $13.7 million. Meanwhile, VGT tax stood at $1.9 million and fantasy sports $117,044.
