Barton handed one-match ban for betting offences
English professional footballer Joey Barton has been given a one-match ban after being charged with breaching rules on betting.
Barton admitted to placing 44 wagers on games, in contravention of Scottish Football Association rules that prohibit players, coaches and referees from betting on football anywhere in the world.
The ban will come into effect should Barton sign for another Scottish club, with the player having recently left Scottish Premiership side Rangers by mutual consent.
However, should the former England international sign for a team in another country, it would be up to the domestic football association of that nation to decide whether the ban should be served.
