Betclic Everest has become the first company to secure an online sports betting licence in the Portuguese online gambling market.
Earlier this week the company launched its Portugal-facing Betclic.pt website, which offers punters in the country the opportunity to place wagers on a host of sporting events from around the world.
Betclic was granted approval to launch the new platform by Portuguese local regulator Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ).
Confirmation of the licence comes just over a year after Portugal launched plans for a legalised online gaming market.
The decision led to the withdrawal of several major companies from the country, including William Hill, Betfair and Amaya’s Full Tilt and PokerStars brands.
